The school was founded in 1896. On 3rd February 1896 Addington Government School for girls was opened by Miss C.M. Dore. It was initially established in a home in Broad Street on the banks of the harbour. Sometime between the years 1906 and 1909 the school transferred to the beach front site next to Addington Hospital.

It comprised of classes from class 1 to std. 6. In 1910 Mr. Rees the new principal reopened the school as a mixed school for girls and boys.

    PROS:

    I went to APS last year and I must say even though the campus is not pretty it is a very good school and the teachers take their jobs seriously. I am proud to say I am part of the APS family and my heart and soul are still there.
